History
Akatsuki-Manga is a "manga scanlation" group started in November of 2002. We were originally the "Naruto-Guide" group, but now have changed our name so that we could expand and do different manga titles.
What is scanlation?
Scanlation is basically a made-up word to represent what we do. This means scanning manga from books or magazines in their raw format (i.e. not in English) and editing them by erasing the text and touching up the scans. After translation of the manga, English is inserted where Japanese (or another language) was, and this becomes the final product!
Are these things for sale?
No way! The original manga are in no way owned by us, they are owned by the manga artists themselves and their publishers. However, the scans are a completely free service, and are not for sale! The scans are translated and edited strictly by fans, for the fans. Check the download section for them.
What is the purpose of scanlation?
To boost manga's popularity and to be able to use and practice our knowledge (whether it be with a foreign language or Photoshop). Most people are aware of anime, but most anime you see on television is stemmed from manga (just as many movies are based on books).
How do scanlations help the manga industry?
Although we offer our scans as a free service, we hope you go out to buy the real manga if you enjoy a particular series, because while scans are nice, they are not meant as a substitute for the original. Think of the scans as a "visual guide" for the raw manga you can buy yourself. Usually manga is priced at $5 a book here in the US, for that price I'm sure anyone can afford to purchase some manga (even if they have to skip lunch.. haha!) Check the links section for online stores. ^^
How can I help?
If you're thinking of joining us, we'll always accept new translators (Japanese preferred, but also Chinese!). We're also looking for anyone who can help scan for us, or give us space to host our releases. For details on openings, contact us directly on IRC (visit the downloads section to find out how), and message any operator or send an e-mail.
Recognition:
All members listed here have done work on one or another series now or in the past. Strikeouts are old members that are not active anymore in their particular field.
